It's hard to believe that in a student population of 26,000, nnhnHv r?o roc tr* run fnr furn ol VW X JLVfi VYYVT offices in the Student Government. There are two explanations for the lack of participation: either students were not informed of the filing dates or they're just not interested in what the Student Government can do. We tend to feel it's a little bit of both. The filing dates for office were Feb. 5 and little information about how to file, where to file etc. was advertised. Hence, the two candidates for two positions. Perhaps students think the two positions have no use to them for future jobs. Nothing could be further from the truth. Both secretary and treasurer have responsibilities useful for running the Student Government effectively. ? - Searching Just last week, the Reagan Administration sent $55 million in emergency military equipment to the Salvadoran junta government. These days, the critics of that action are speaking out in the name of the truth. The truth of what is happening in El Salvador remains to be seen. nowever, at least tne attempt to know what is going on is making some headway. Three separate teams of Democratic Congressional members started leaving Friday to that strife-ridden territory in a search for the real story among the tales of terror and violence. House Speaker Thomas P. O'Neill sent one of the teams. Another includes Sen. Clairborne Pell of Rhode Island and Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont. The ^ ^ Tom Coyne, News Editor ^ ^ ^ David Talley. That would serve two purposes: increase the number of able students interested in running for Student Government offices and decrease the time for candidate ! campaigning that is traditionally too long to begin with. The elections will be held March 4 and the run-offs will be held March 9. There is plenty of time for students to get involved with an A.* i 1 - - urbanization mat snould affect them more than any other on campus. There is no way that a university this large should not have its students fighting for Student 1 Government positions. Right now we think that students should realize that when they are complaining about' Student Government one year from now, it is they that could have made the difference this year. XT* rn -i r or i rum third is led by Rep. T A. i-L.!- i * 1 ?just mis pasi weanesaay, Deputy Assistant Secretary for InterAmerican Affairs Stephen W. Bosworth told a closed briefing a the Foreign Affairs Committee that there was "incontrovertible evidence that Cuba was involved in El Salvador" but gave no evidence of his statement. It is not enough to relv on the Republicans who keep shuttling money one-way from Washington to El Salvador. We need answers quickly and applaud the factfinding Democratic Congressmen for at least attempting to seek those answers. NONSENSE, NAHO/. THE WROW OIHER60/ERNMENTJOK.
