He studied the w basket, let fly with the shot and heard the roar of the crowd as the ball sank below the rim and into the net. For Gamecock leading scorer Jimmy Foster this is a familiar scenario. He hadn't won the game in the final moments, but the fans appreciated his success at what has become a difficult taek for him The Greenville native has had problems converting from the foul line during his year and a half at USC. Last season Foster hit on 86 of 173 charity tosses, a .497 percentage. He may have been the worst foul shooter of any player of consequence in NCAA Division I basketball last year. This year he is converting at a .427 rate. But he's getting better. Although these two games may not mean a complete turnaround, it's a start at building confidence, a basic ingredient Foster said he needs for improvement. "They start going in and you start getting a little more confidence. So you say 'I don't even have to think about it,' and dribble twice and shoot it." Foster is very adept at using the backboard to bang his shots through the hoop from inside and Foster even experimented using the board from the foul line.
