"I'm five or six years away from my peak." THE 5-6, 142-pound Krolewicz rates his finishing kick, which is more sustained than the sprint used in mu^h shorter races, as his best attribute. "I've got the best finishing kick of all ultra-distance runners in the country, bar i none," Krolewicz said. And to Krolewicz distances pose no problems. "I can run eight hours by mistake," the Brockton, Mass. native said. Krolewicz enjoys the challenge of working with children who have learning disabilities both on the field and in the classroom: "I enjoy watching the lights come on when the student gets something." Krolewicz even has an ultra-marathon protege' in 15-year-old Bobby Urban, a sophomore cross country and track runner at Richland Northeast High School in Columbia. And becoming "the greatest ultra-marathoner the world has ever known." The biggest problem for Krolewicz is money. "If I just had the money to go I could run an ultra every weekend between now and the end of the year," Krolewicz declared. But for now he will have to settle for training on the black top of Columbia and carefully pick his weekend expeditions. While he runs down those streets in the mornings' cold and through the evening twilight, Krolewicz has plenty of time to think and plan ahead. Who knows, some day he may fulfill his goals and become a household name in an almost unknown sport. At least for awhile.
