Franken and Davis met in 1968 in Minnesota. When Franken enrolled in Harvard, Davis went along, working odd jobs to earn a living. They met with early success at the ages of 23 and 24 when they received the first of their three Emmeys after beginning their careers in such comedic institutions as the Improvisation in New York (with Jimmy Walker, Gabe Kaplan and Freddie Prinze) ; the Comedy Store in Los Angeles, and various colleges and clubs throughout the country. In 1975 they were hired by Lome Michaels for Saturday Night Live . They stayed for five seasons until A1 got his owi segment in "Weekend Update," thus beginning the "A Franken Decade." They left after the 1979-80 season and ar< presently writing the screenplay for the Saturday Night Liv< Movie.
