B 2909 Piatt Springs Rd. West Columbia I 94>Monday thru Saturday .1 USC Student Prodi : . ? ? By Susan Cartwright Staff Writer ' Laughter was the sound heard coming from the Stevenson Auditorium in Orangeburg Friday night as USC theatre major Joel Mason and the Part-time Players presented the Neil Simon comedy,4'God's Favorite." Mason, who recently got out of the Navy, skillfully directed, produced and acted in the play. After joining his high school drama club, in 1979 he formed the Part-time Players, consisting of himself and two friends. They travelled around the Orangeburg area doing mostly pantomines and talent shows. Their plans and ambitions then had to be put on hold while Mason served his stint in the Navy. wtiiLHi waning to tumil tnose plans, worked with the small theatre at his Japanese homebase. He also took some college courses. Happy Birthday, Karen, TP ^ 1 ii yoirre taj courses, you heln vou can IB NIAMHft UMCWmtm j MOOM _ ; "w*? Besides Mason, actors in the play were Jon Coats, Jeff Weaver, Gloria John, Randy Houk, Sandra Lorick, Norma Crutchfield Swinney and Fred Boatwright. BECAUSE OF the fact that he is entering USC this fall, Mason is not sure he will have time to do another play. His Orangeburg shows, however, were definitely a success. From the time the curtain opened until the time it closed two hours later, Mason and company created a magical world. The packed house left the theatre in high spirits. It was God's will.
