Black Fro Kappa Alpha Psi, a black fraternity, was given university housing July 15, a first for black Greek organizations at USC. Five other Greek organizations entered the lottery. Associate Dean of Student Affairs Mark Shanley said the sorority moved out of the house because of rent and utility bill problems, and "they couldn't get the minimum number of members.*' WHEN THE sorority left, Student Affairs invited the chartered groups without oncampus housing and meeting space to apply for the house, Shanley said. "We decided that a lottery was the fairest way to decide." Kappa Alpha Psi, Alpha Phi Alpha, Phi Beta Sigma and Delta Upsilon fraternities and Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, applied for the I J.V. Before moving in, they will have to sign a lease, renovate and provide furnishings. Shanley said the house provides living space i or six memDers. Kappa Alpha Psi member Marx Davis said, "We're still in the process of deciding who will live there . . . It's not in bad shape; it needs to be painted and needs a few minor repairs. DAVIS SAID residents of the house will pay about $400 a semester. The money will be used to pay rent and utilities and for an emergency fund for any problems that may arise, he said. Davis said that since Kappa Alpha Psi is the first black fraternity to get on-campus housing, it will come under close scrutiny by university officials.
