r?bri Riley Vetoes School Funds BGov. Dick Riley July 29 vetoed about $1 million worth of USC's spending provisions for fiscal year 1981-82. About six of Riley's 59 vetoes affected USC's Columbia campus three branch campuses and the USC Medical School. Spending provisions for several other state colleges and universities were also cut, bringing the total amount of vetoed provisions for higher education to about $3 million. Stadium Deck Planned After waiting almost a year, USC took steps Sunday to K begin renovations on Williams Brice Stadium by advertising the project open for construction bids. Bidding was delayed beacuse renovation plans were still inenmnlete Perry Indicted Donald Ray Perry, the 20-year-old Columbia man charged with murdering a USC professor, was indicted Monday by a Richland County grand jury. Following a preliminary hearing, the grand jury also indicted Perry on charges of kidnapping and rape in the shooting death of Dr. Mary J. Heimberger, a USC elementary education professor. The armed robberv charce . which Perrv also faced. was dropped during the preliminary hearing. Heimberger's partially-clothed body was found March 5 by children playing in woods near Highway 321 and Interstate 20. An autopsy found she died from a .38-caliber gunshot wound. Authorities said they believe Heimberger was kidnapped and raped before being killed. Graduation Speaker Edward L. Hennessey Jr., chairman of the board and chief officer of Allied Corporation, will be the commencement speaker at USC's system-wide summer graduation exercises Sat , Aug. 15. Hennessey, who will be awarded an honorary doctor of laws degree during the ceremony, joined Allied Corporation in 1979 as president and chief executive officer and member of the board.
