"Contrary to what the letter stated, Tony Hardee and his people at AHA are working hard to continue and improve food service on this campus. "The item severely attacked in the letter was the bookstore," he said. "I know personally how hard Don Miles and his dedicated people work to serve the students, faculty and staff. The Book Reserve Program is an innovation with just that intent in mind. The letter, additionally, states that the university charges athletic fees, which is untrue. The letter encourages students to sign up for private housing. The item given the most attention in the letter is the Book Reserve Program, a service that alio s incoming freshmen who leave their name, social security number and a $10 deposit to have their textbooks compiled and bagged for them by the bookstore after their schedules are run through the computer. The $10 goes toward the cost of the books and is non-refundable. Bailey and University Bookstore director Miles are not certain what effect the letter will have on textbook sales. They both said they will have to look at sales for the month at the end of the fiscal year to determine what effect, if any, the letter had on their businesses. REPRESENTATIVES FROM University Bookstore, ARA Services and Residential Life Services said that they are trying to eliminate confusioncaused by the letter. Residential Life Services is considering sending out a correcting letter if one is necessary.
