Russell Hoi Gettina I mi V I By STEVE DANIEL A renovation of the Russell House Theater will highlight a $1.8 million project expected to be completed during the fall, according to Thomas Otts, director of Russell House University Union. "We're looking at doing some major renovations to the theater, and it's going to be a very impressive project," Otts said. "A study of the air handling system was recently completed and a new system is now being engineered," Otts said. "We're also going to take the existing seats out and completely refurbish them as well as to add some additional seats to bring the number to over 300.'' OTTS EXPRESSED some concern over the present safety of the theater. "The way the lighting is now might be a safety nazard, so we re going to add aisle lights so people won t be bumping into each other." With approval by the Capital Planning Committee and funds from the general renovation fund, Otts said he hopes to have some improvements completed before the fall. "Our objective is to have the seating and lighting completed by the fall and the air handling system finished by Christmas break." Other improvements will include new floor tile and carpet, a new coat of paing and additional soundproofing. Otts said Russell House renovation plans, which have been going on for several months, will include improvements to the cafeteria and bookstore as well.
