Goff. The cause of the third floor fire has not been officially determined yet, Goff said. The damage was done to resident Karen Mitchell's carpet, bed and belongings. Mitchell left her room for a few minutes about 4:45 p.m. Her neighbor Becky Hutchinson knocked on Mitchell's open door, saw the flames and called for help. After Hutchinson unsuccessfully tried to get the hall water hose, both girls attempted to put the fire out using buckets of water. Another girl pulled the fire alarm and used the fire extinguisher. Hutchinson said the bed and trash can were on fire, but they extinguished the flames about five minutes before the fire engines arrived. She said there was a lot of smoke, but most girls in the dorm thought it was a routine drill and no one hurried out of the building. "The bad thing is that we were really dragging people out of their rooms to leave," Hutchinson said. The bed, carpet and Mitchell's clothes were damaged out no other damages were reported.
