And worse, you do not know who you are. Well, that's the <<ihiatinn thnf Tncnn Rnnmo finds himself in Robert Ludlum's thriller, "The Bourne Identity." Ludluin, author of eight other novels including the 'Matarese Circle,' which topped the New York Times Bestsellers List for 30 consecutive weeks, has once again followed the formula Knf Ur?? UI ' inai uao iiiauv mill ui America's most successful authors. And once again, that formula has produced another thrilling novel. PUT SIMPLY, the Ludlum formula takes the main character and places him beyond the help of any organized law force. Once isolated, he must defend himself against a host of killers. More often than not, he has no idea who the people are or why they are after him. And to find out, he must subject himself to even greater danger. Yet the use of this pattern, does not make "The Bourne Identity" a stale rehash of Ludlum's earlier works. The reason for this is obvious. Ludlum is a gifted storyteller who is able to get the readers involved in the' book. And it's that involvement by the readers that makes his novels so popular. We identify with Jason Bourne. We feel his confusion as he searches for who he is. We share Bourne's amazement as he defends with skills he didn't know he had against assailants who try to kill him. And we un derstand his growing love for the woman he has kidnapped but who has become his willing companion. Together they find clues to the person Bourne really is. Bourne's true identity is somehow related to Carlos, a Una s i On Monday, the company will perform in Jacksonville at an assembly for the students of Terry Parker High School. From there they will head to Hilton Head, S.C. to entertain on the 18th hole at the opening ceremonies of the Heritage Golf Classic. This is the first year Carolina Alive has performed for this function. In past years "Up With People" has had this honor. After a day at Hilton Head the singers will return to USC and follow a performance of the Egyptian Dance Troupe at a dinner honoring Mrs. Anwar Sadat. The group's greatest variety of songs gives it something of interest for all audiences. Their reDertiore includes popular broadway, novelty, and patriotic songs. By adding choreography and enthusiasm to the forty voices, Conant and Joe Chapman, arranger and choreographer for the group, bring a life to Carolina Alive that audiences find exciting. DURING THE THIRD year of operation, the corsairs (another word for pirates not used before) had a brilliant idea. They started competition between the two stores, alternately raising prices as people scrambled between the two places to see which gave a better deal. All the time this was going on, the employees of both stores were saying, "Ay." Back at the home base of the Caribbean, where the cool, clear water melts into the hot sands of the golden beach, the "pirate publishers," were laughing their skull and crossbones off.
