IKole dazzh with amazii By Danny Powell Staff Writ Illusionist Andre Kole dazzled a sparse Coliseum crowd Thursday evening with his many feats of amazing illusions: everything from sawing a woman in half to levitating 1ms own body over the stage. Kole, sponsored by the Campus Crusade for Christ, Inc., was at the Coliseum to present his blend of wizardry and religious beliefs. But even if one did not take his religious overtones to heart, which was an option he left to the individual, one was thoroughly encouraged to regard his illusions as great tricks. His first trick was to saw his daughter Robin in half. This was a traditional favorite of illusionists and there was no doubt in anyone's mind that it would work. But the audience was still in awe after he "sawed" Ihis daughter in half, separated the box she was in and walked between the two halves. One thing that added greatly to Kole's act was his humorous approach to his profession. He got the audience feeling good with his jokes and puns as he proceeded with his tricks. Another traditional trick was that of making someone enter a cabinet and making them disappear. For this trick, Kole used the assistance of his son Tim. The younger Kole entered the cabinet, the door was shut, and when re-opened by the elder Kole, Tim gone. Then, as the applause died down, Kole shut the cabinet, and instead of Tim coming back out of the cabinet, Robin appeared, while Tim came in from the side stage. I A seance is usually considered anything I but religious, and Kole confessed that he did not believe that the living could communicate with the dead; he did say that the living could deal with demons. After two audience members tied his arms and legs to a chair, Kole demonstrated the "reality" of demons. With a cloth covering hiding him from the audience, Kole showed how the demons were present by making them throw several items, including a small table, which were hidden behind the cloth with him. The whole thing took a few seconds, and when the table had been thrown over the top, the covering was lowered by his assistant to show the illusionist still tied up. The cover was raised, and a few seconds later lowered to reveal the coat on Kole, with the ropes on him still secure. After his daughter did some tricks of her own, Kole did "the Mystery of the Bermuda Triangle," after explaining some facts about the mystery spot. The trick involved a triangular case in which Kole sat crosslegged. When the case was sealed, his assistants folded the sides, with lighted spikes pointing into the case. Of course, it would be physically impossible for any human to survive such a feat, but when the case was reopened, Kole was not present. He did not reappear until the lighted sides were removed, when he appeared sitting cross-legged, as if nothing had happened. The show continued, with his "Battle of the Barrels" trick, in which he went from one barrel to another through a thick board and steel rods. Then there was the levitation j act. One would have to see it to believe it, and the audience was left in awe for a moment as fha purloin ??- ?? >?<v vw win v.ivotu iui me intermission, and Kole was still suspended in mid-air over the stage. Kole finished with the "Mystery of the Pyramid" trick. For this illusion, Kole used his son and daughter to help him. It started out with Tim helping Robin into a four-sided pyramid after he had removed the top. Once she was in and the top replaced, he proceeded to stick glowing sabres through the pyramid's sides. Two sabres went from one side to the other and a third was inserted through the top to appear at the bottom. After the audience cheered, Tim removed the sabres and the top of the pyramid so he could stand up in the center of it. After he had stepped down from the pyramid, Robin suddenly appeared from where she had not been a moment before. The finale of the trick came when, with Andre Kole's two children to the side of the pyramid, Tim fired a gun and the elder Kole rose from the pyramid dressed like a Egyptian Pharoh, while the backdrop of a f J 1 J r ?i ? There can be no doubt that what he does can not be done in the physical world, because Kole admits he is an illusionist and not a magician. Whatever way you look at it, Kole was great.
