"The team is very good. The top eight players are very close," he said. The tennis team has faced little pressure in doubles matches so far this season. In all but one outing USC had already won the match before doubles were played. However, Smarr said he is confident in his doubles teams and in their ability to play under pressure. "I think we're pretty strong in doubles," he said. Smarr explained that against Ohio State in the Buckeye Tennis Classic last weekend, doubles were played prior to singles. Two of USC's doubles teams were down a set and the other behind in a tiebreaker before all three came back to win their matches. DARON ROBERTS said the wins are helping the team's confidence. "We all played well up there (the Buckeye Classic) and we're really getting psyched up for our matches," he said. The team's next match will be Saturday against North Carolina. Smarr said the Tar Heels are a "good, solid team" and will be USC's first regional match up of the season. Hh-ranb By Bertram M.
