They also recorded a win over the University of Georgia squad despite playing two men short due to injuries. The Carolina club is fast becoming a well known collegiate rugby power from the South by posting wins against Ohio State, Georgetown University, University of Cincinnati, Old Dominion and Cortland State from New York during the 1979-80 season, Rugby Club President Mark Morris said. CAROLINA OPENED the season with a 42-0 win over Savannah powered by a fine team performance with leadership from cocaptain Sammy Mabry. Outstanding back play by Marty Moliken, Andy Spellard and Danny Feller, all returning veterans, also helped in the landslide victory. Thanks to a good recruiting year, open spots left by injuries have been filled easily, Morris said. He is still optimistic about an undefeated season and possible state championship this year.
