Lunceford permitted
Gaudette to begin practice
provi<ted she use heat and
ice on her arm and warm up
completely oeiore playing.
In March 1979, however,
Gaudette reinjured her
shoulder during the first
week of outdoor practice.
Within 10 day. , Martino
asked her to quit the team
and give up her scholarship,
Gaudette said.
Gaudette refused and was
cut from the team that day.
Her scholarship, a one year
contract renewable at the
end of each year, was not
enewed.
LUNCEFORD treated
Gaudette until the summer
of 1979, releasing her
because he felt nothing more
could be done to imurove the
condition of her arm.

Norton also wrote that in
looking at earlier report
drafts, the three consultants
had suggested that USC
evaluate the occupational
degree programs in General
Studies and "work toward
their elimination."
"I regret that we lost the
phrase 'and work toward
their elimination' in the final
draft," Norton wrote.

arm had reached a plateau
in recovery and that I
wouldn't get much more
than that," she said. "He
released me from his care,
saying I would just continue
to have problems with my
arm."
After Lunceford's
diagnosis, Gaudette asked
Women's Athletic Director
Pam Parsons if she could see
another doctor for a second
opinion. The second opinion,
however, disagreed with all
previous diagnoses.
'THAT'S WHEN I stopped
seeing doctors through them
(the university) and got my
own," Gaudette said. "I was
seen by university doctors
for a year and never was
given a urm diagnosis. My
arm never healed. It either
got worse or it stayed the
same," she said.

Albright and Robert B.
Mautz sent letters to James

chairman, agreeing with and
supporting Norton's letter.
The commission had
asked the two consultants to
clarify their stand concerning
Norton's letter.

Once Gaudette was
referred to Neer she
returned to Lunceford who
agreed she should see Neer.
When the university
refused to pay for Gaudette's
medical expenses after the
summer of 1979 she told
them she intended to file suit
if they did not take
responsibility for medical
costs.
"WE GAVE them many
opportunities to resume
responsibility before we
suggested a lawsuit,"
Gaudette said.
She said she has no
complaints with the medical
care she received from the
university.
The case is pending in
