Senate By Lana Carter Staff Writer The Russell Ho.je university Union president should be elected by union members rather than by a campus-wide election, the Student Senate was told Wednesday by a special senate committee. John Hiott, chairman of an ad hoc committee formed to study the union election procedure, said too many students are not aware of the union's functions and therefore, aren't qualified to elect the union's president. WE KNEW it would be a disadvantage for the campus, as well as union members, for the president to be elected on a campuswide basis," Hiott said. The ad hoc committee also studied past poor relations between the union and Student Government. According to the union's 1979-80 annual re port, funding, the only area of Student Government involvement in the union, is the union's biggest problem. The union is funded by student activity fees.
