Everybody knows that the I American hostages have I been released after 444 days I in Iranian captivity. The I United States is overjoyed I with the rpturn of our 8 citizens. However, not many people are aware of some USC student?, 2,300 to be exact, that have been held for 14 years in captivity. They are known as the General Studies hostages. File 13 has the real story behind this Carolina Crisis. The hostages have been held in this appalling state Qf education since 1967 and now, in 1981, the United States of Higher Education is trying to free the captives by eliminating the two-year program. THE VILLI AN in all this, as you might have guessed, is the Ayatollah board of trustees and his cohort, president Bani Holderman. These pirates are fighting U.S. Education to keep these innocent 2,300 hostages enrolled in nightmare courses like GSTD (General Studies) 241? "Office Machines," GSTD 263? "Fashion Internship" and GSTD 308?"Food/Sanitation Microbiology." On Tuesday before the S.C. General Assembly, the brainwashed hostage spokesman George Rogers tried to persuade the Assembly that the General Studies program should be saved His eyes glazed and voice programmed, Rogers praised the program which has mistreated him for the past four years. Next to him, a smiling Bani Holderman looked on, knowing fully well that he could command an army of USC administrators Two music The South Carolina Chamber Orchestra will present a soloist 8 p.m. concert Saturday at A.K.P. r Centennial Church. Reports inside the General Studies classrooms read like horror stories. Thousands of students brainwashed in "Creative Activities Labs" where they are told to be silent of face having to take taxing multiple choice examinations. We suggest that until good citizens such as George Rogers and the other 2,299 hostages are released, that we tie rubber bands around trees on campus. The U.S. Commission on Higher Education is doing its best job. Iranian negotiator Behzad Borkowski is still adamantly opposed to releasing the General Studies captives. If war is declared by President Jimmy Bostic, CHE chairman, it's a sure bet that some of the 2,300 will be killed but this is a chance that has to be taken. It might be better than the severe torture they're going through now. * MEDIC AFH UEJ ifflflF m IBM Take the money worries ..
