Roommates in a Marion Street apartment awoke to discover that a thief had entered the apartment through a bathroom window and had stolen their purses. A student reported that her car was stolen by a couple whom she and her husband had met at a bar and invited back to their Woodland Terrace apartment for drinks. A battery was stolen from a car parked in the lot at 400 | Sumter St. MONDAY. OCT. 13 ? Roommates reported receiving obscene telephone calls at their Baker dorm room. A wheel was removed from a car parked in a coliseum lot. A watch was stolen from an unlocked Capstone dorm ; room. A staff member reported a pushcart missing from Maxcv dorm. A banner was taken from the front of Longstreet Theater. A camera, a lens and a pair of binoculars were stolen from an unlocked Bates West room. A staff member's purse was stolen from a room in the Coliseum. A student s wallet was stolen from the peer advising room in the Russell House. TUESDAY, OCT. 14 ? Cassette tapes, a tape box and a speaker were stolen from a car parked in the Blossom Street Garage. A battery was removed from another car in the garage. A purse was stolen from an unlocked South Tower room and was later found in a rest room. A telephone and jewHrv were stolen from a University Terrace Apart^ Man arrested for theft A non-student was arrested Thursday night for the theft of a student's class ring last semester. Jeffrey G. Johnson, address unkown, fled South Carolina in May when he learned that he was wanted for stealing Karen Kalstad's ring from her Sims dorm room April 26. Police found Johnson in the Russell House gameroom Thursday. A man was arrested in the! Wade Hampton Hotel after striking a security guard who had caught him with a bag of marijuana in his possession. A rest bar was taken from a student's motorcycle at LeConte College. A trash can fire on the first floor of Harper College was extinguished with little damage. A false fire alarm was reported in Tenement 35. FRIDAY, OCT. 17 ? A drunken student was caught taking roses from a garden near Lieber College. A staff member reported a tote bag stolen from her office in Wardlaw College. Two drawings were stolen from the Hunting Hall Gallery in Sloan College. A pushcart and a box of props were taken from a van parked near the stadium during "Cockfest." j The rear window of a student's car was smashed while the vehicle was parked near the Commissary. Clarence Flethcer Carter of Mt. Pleasant was driving the 1980 Pontiac when it left secondary road 267.12 miles north of St. Matthews and hit a tree. Collier, a 19-vear-old transfer student from Converse College in Spartanburg, was pronounced dead at 7:45 a.m. in the hospital's emergency room. Carter suffered a broken jaw and leg, and Kirt Darby had a broken neck and a cut on his head. They were transferred by helicopter to a Charleston hospital. Joan Darby was later released from the Orangeburg hospital. According to Orangeburg Coroner A. Will Stroman, the S.C. Highway Pa'rol received a call about the accident at 4:55a.in.
