4.1 student Pari By Susan Hand Staff Writer Despite continuous frustration over the lack of on-campus parking spaces, USC students have more available parking space than ever before, according to the Columbia President's Panel. The panel, which is studying USC's parking nrnhlpm rpnnrtpH that in 1979, the latest year for which figures are available, 6,613 student parking spaces were available for 20,548 full-time and 5,458 part-time students, an average of 3.9 students for each parking space. But 2,118 of these spaces were reserved spaces in the Blossom and Pendleton street garages, and 855 were metered spaces. In 1977 6,638 parking spaces were available for 23,577 full-time and 3,608 part-time students, an average of 4.1 students for every parking space. SINCE 1972, use has added 1,296 faculty and staff members, but only 393 faculty and staff parking spaces. In 1979 there were 3,843 faculty and staff members, and only 1,970 faculty and staff parking spaces, an averagp of two pmnlovpps for each parking space. In 1970 the first phase of the Blossom Street Garage was completed to ease the parking problem. Parking spaces have been added in the garage over the years . Baker said he does not | expect the parking facility to be built for several years because there may be problems buying the lot from its owner. ! There are 20 parking areas on campus available to resident students, and three areas designated tor commuting students.
