'Emotio new fro By Ward Borden Gamecock Staff Writer Well, a brief look at the news shows that inflation is again up this year and economic indicators show the country is in a recession. American hostages are still being held in Iran, the Soviets haven't apologized for Afghanistan and the Rollings stones have another album out. The first side of Emotional Rescue opens with a number called "Dance" which tells the listener to "get up, get out, into something new." The song appropriately has a good dance beat, but the Stones aren't following their own advice. A rocker called "Summer Romance" follows, with good guitar by Ronnie Wood and a simple but catchy beat. It is best described as typical Stones. One of the best songs on the album, "Let Me Go," has the twang oi some oi tne earlier "country" efforts by the Stones, but is faster and more captivating. The lyrics are good and Jagger sings it well. Side two open with the closest thing to New Wave on the album, "Where The Boys Go." The words come fast, but the sound isn't very close / BC (I < ^ * * lit : Fun Dressing. ] of colors & fabr 2736 Devine St gmiiiiiiiiiimiiiiiiimiiiifiiiiiiiiiiiiniiiii I Gj I Th. There is very little that is different or revolutionary about the album. The Stones have not veered off into any direction they haven't occupied before. If anything, this album may be less adventurous than many other efforts. The Stones do, however, go with what thev do best. rhythm and blues. Drumer Charlie Watts and bassist Bill Wyman supply the predominant beat that serves the Stones well. A subtlety one might observe is the naturalness of the Stone's sound. The group seems totally comfortable with songs on the album. The result is a tight musical sound and an "easy listening" quality. For those expecting something different from the album, forget it.
