Bronco Billy tells the story c former New Jersey shoe salesn Billy McCoy (Eastwood), who now makes a living by living a fable. He's the horse-riding, sharp shooting, knifethrowing owneroperator of a traveling Wild West show that's forever on the verge of going broke. But Billy continues to push on, partly because he doesn't want to disappoint "the little pardners and buckaroos" that turn out to see him each year, and partly because P r^--:i -"^\-;"^^^7j^?-V--:V^K h ^.-i r ': _ = ?? _l? - ? ^ ' lillllliililii y" : x : : ' ' 'ifeW-^P $m,, : %" ^ ?%, %mZr f' < Mmm. jm&&, y?M&m' ?&& <' . : >* Rtnnnrt Rillu iClUnt Fwztwnn Wild West sho w. (Billy's lack of proficiency in the latter area seems to be the main reason why an assistant is so hard to noid on to.) Enter Antoinette Lily (Sondra Locke), a spoiled heiress who's been abandoned, literally without a dime, by her foppish husband, Jeff (Geoffrey Lewis). Billy picks her up somewhere in Idaho and offers to take her back to civilization if she'll help him out until he can find a permanent assistant. Reluctantly, she agrees. Within a day or two, however, Antoinette's mother's lawyer has found John and bribed him into confessing to Antoinette's murder. From that point on, logic is not one of the strong suits of Dennis Hackin's script. Eastwood downplays most of the comic-strip aspects of the movie's second half, though, by keeping the performances from slipping into the caricatures they might easily have become under a less resourceful director. This is the fourth film in which Eastwood and Locke have been paired romantically (The Outlaw ?
