April "18,1980 Local robbed By Leroy WHIiams Gamecock Stot) Writer An armed man held up the Gamecock branch oi tne National Bank of South Carolina shortly after it opened Friday morning and escaped with an undetermined amount of money. No one was injured in the hold up, and an investigation into the case is underway. Columbia City police spokesmen said a man entered the Pendleton Street bank around 9 a.m., walked up to a window, handed the teller a deposit slip with a note demanding money, and pointed what is believed to be a .38 caliber blue steel snub-nose pistol at the teller. The teller, Mary Griffin, gave the suspect an unknown amount of cash, which he put into his jacket. He walked out of the Pendleton Street side of the bank. Griffin told police the man was . about six feet tall and weighed about 200 pounds. He was wearing a red plaid jacket and blue pants.
