SAC ci< resignii By Megan Sexton Gairococfc Staff Writer Assistant to the dean of student affairs, Doug Bostick, will resign March 21 to become assistant director of campus activities at the University of Maryland. Bostick has been at USC for almost four years, spending two of those as a graduate student. , Bostick said he has "mixed emotions" about leaving a job he developed. In 1978 he began as administrative assistant to the Doug Bostick dean of student affairs, Marsha Duncan. His responsibilities now cover three areas, Duncan said. Besides being her administrative assistant, Bostick is the adviser for the Student Allocations Commission and monitors office budgets. BOSTICK ALSO directs the Carolina Leadership Program, which he began two years ago. The leadership program includes a resource center and two non-credit courses to teach leadership skills, Duncan said. The resource center in the Russell House provides materials on motivation and communication for students and faculty. "Largely German at th T _1 /%. "I guess you feel a little remorse leaving any job, but it's harder because I'm attached to the outstanding staff at USC," Bostick said. "The work with SAC has been difficult because when you work with budgets no one is happy and you get a lot of flak." Bostick said he is sorry he won't be able to work under the new bill passed in the senate which eliminates SAC and gives the responsibility of allocating funds to the senate finance committee. 4,I SIIPPORTRn thp hill inn percent," Bosticksaid. Duncan said the job Bostick has done here is incredible, "and that's why we lost him. His job was an entry level position and we feel fortunate we kept Doug for two years." v His job at Maryland will involve coordinating a leadership program. The job had been held until August 1979 by a friend of Bostick's. The University of Maryland wasn't happy with job applicants and notified Bostick. He sent a resume, went for an interview and was offered the job. A "national search" will be conducted to find Bostick's replacement, Duncan said. The office of student affairs will advertise in the "Chronicle of Higher Education" and accept applications until April 21. A search committee will be set up and Duncan hopes a replacement will be found early this summer. i "Because of the salary level and the uniqueness of the job, they (USC office of student affairs) should be able to attract some sharp people," Bostick said.
