behind the hot shooting of Mike
Henderson, the Kappas were able
to regain the lead at 32-31 with 10
unanswered points.
The Kappa's lead was short lived |
however, as ATO ran off a scoring
streak of their won. Led by Warren

scored eight consecutive points to
take the lead for good. With 47
seconds left, the underdogs held a

late. Jay Watt sunk one of two free

the Kappas fell short to insure the
win for ATO, now 4-1 on the season.
"We hadn't been playing well
lately," point guard Mike Scaturro

knew that we had a good team all
along. This is definitely our best
game of the season."
The turning point in the game

opening period, the Kappas
climbed back into the lead with
just seconds left on three point shot

time out, ATO seized the
momentum away from the second

Well, its finally over.
After a long season of ups and 1
downs, Frank McGuire has now t
closed the book on a glorious era of 1

with the smiling Irishman at the I

changed its defense because of that
and the move paid off.

seven respectively.

learned early this week that USC
will be named as one of the teams
which will participate in the
National Invitation Tournament.
This opportunity would be a
great going away present for
McGuire, who has participated
seven times in the tourney which
I will be concluded in New York's
Madison Square Garden about a
month from now. The first round
NIT game however, is likely to be
played at the Carolina Coliseum
(assuming Carolina recieves the
bid).
Such a game would give USC's
legendary Irishman at least one
more day of glory at the building
they call the "House that Frank
built."
But, with a 16-11 record and no
real significant wins to its credit, it
is doubtful that his team would get
very far in the tournament. There
are also those who will inevitably

same manner as they did two
seasons ago when the Gamecocks
made their last post-season appearence.
After his final regular season
triumph Saturday night against
Western Kentucky, McGuire
addressed the issue of the possible
NIT bid. "I'd like to get the bid on
the merits of the team instead of on
the merits of the coach," he said.
If I ISC is to thp nnnnrtunit v tn
play in the NIT, it will have to be on
McGuire's merits, because there
are a lot of teams in this country
that are better than this year's
j Gamecocks.
