"Dizzy" enjoys a world-wide following but is nowhere more beloved than his native state. "Dizzy" Gillespie received his first musical training from his father, an amateur musician in his home town of Cheraw. At age 14, "Dizzy" swapped his trombone for a trumpet to begin his part in modern jazz history. With Babies and Banners is the featured film for the independent American Filmakers Southern Circuit showing at The Columbia Museums of Art and Science, Feb. 22 beginning at 8. Directed and produced by Lorraine Gray, the film was the winner of a Gold I Ducat, Manheim International Film Festival in 1978 and a silver Medal at the Nyon Documentary Film Festival. The film is made possible through a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts and through the S.C. Arts Commission. The public is invited to view the film with no admission charge. Two Israeli students, Liat Timor and Kami Ronen, will speak on current events in Israel at the Hillel meeting Thursday evening Feb. 21 at 7 in room 303 Russell House. In addition to their lecture the students will present a slide P. show. Refreshments will be ser|s ved.
