The 1980-81 USC yearbook, the
Garnet and Black, may not be
published next year if an editor is
not found by the end of March,
according to Bill Outlaw, director
of student media.
"We're very concerned about the
situation," he said. "The Student
Allocations Commission will want
an editor when the budget comes
up for review in February." If one
is not found soon the job of training
a new editor will bp mnro difficult
he added.
Steve Hall, 1979-80 G&B editor,
said so far no qualified persons
have applied.
The editor needs at least one- to
two-months of intensive on-the-job .

easier to take a person with !

train him in creativity than to train
someone with a creative

Smith said that he hopes the

While the reinstatement order
did not include a stipulation of
tenure or promotion, Smith said

Smith said he is looking forward
to returning to his classes and
resuming his research.
Holderman said he is optimistic
that the decision by the State 1
Grievance Board will not endanger
a bill he has introduced in the S.C.
legislature that would exempt
USC faculty members from state
grievance proceedings.
Holderman said he was not
surprised by the decision.

direct mail solicitation program
for the 1981 freshman class.

Hall and Outlaw said the journalism
school should have
someone apply for the position.

Hall said the budget for 1981 is
being done in the dark. The
yearbook that cost $82,000 in 1980
will be more than $96,000 in 1981.
Therefore, the G&B will not only
have to sell more books, but will
have to do more to please the individual
student.

now and September if the yearbook
for 1981 is to become a reality," j
