Bowling By Ralph Stice Gamecock Steff Writer Although the USC men's and women's bowling teams both started their seasons with wins over Spartanburg Methodist, opinions on their respective performances differed greatly. The men, who won by a 56-34 tally, expressed dissatisfaction with their play. "We didn't bowl real well. It was a lot closer than the score indicated," club president Butch Nell said. Club member Graham Rendy spoke even more negatively about the match. "I don't really think we deserved the match," he said. "INEXPERIENCE IS the problem. We had three guys on the fpnm that npvpr KmirloH in tercollegiately before," Heady said. David Ritchie, one of three newcomers who also include Les n 1 l n A 1 ? i i? oeai u ?iiu ouimy miaerson, tea me USC team in scoring in the match. "David will be a real strong addition to the team," Nell said. In commenting on Beard and Anderson, Nell added, "As we bowl more matches they are going to get a lot better." The women's team crushed Spartanburg by an 82-8 score. Sheila Silver rolled a 975 total for the five games (a 195 average) to spearhead the women's effort. "We had the advantage because we had returning people. That is pretty much the way it will be all year," Silver said. THE TWO TEAMS also bowled in the Mountaineer Classic held in Morgantown, West Virginia, recently. There the teams fared about equally. Although the final stanriinfye arp nnt wt Imrmm v.. Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State, West Virginia, West Liberty, Virginia Tech, Marshall, and Slippery Rock College all participated in the Classic. bM la S _ All classified ads aro CASH IN ADVANCI 1 : H Ads may be placed between the hours of 9 a.n j* *H and noon, 1 p.m. and 3 p m.. Ready and Suber averaged 189 and 176 respectively. Heady cited poor spareship as the main force in hurting the men's team performance. "We need to practice the spares. There were so many spares missed up there. It must have cost us 200 pins. That is what kills a team ? the spare shots," he said. DIFFERENT TYPES of lanes and unusual playing times affected the women's performance according to Silver. "There are a lot of factors.
