Randon ELIZABETH GEORGE This small but dazzling array of hand-wrought metal and wood jewelry and ornamented boxes by South Carolinian Elizabeth George far exceeded Aesthetica expectations. Flawless craftsmanship combined with a striking sensitivity for form and con trasting metals and woods in a pleasing synthesis, characterize this exhibition. Most of the works are available for purchase at more than moderate prices, competitive in fact to even machine-stamped facsimiles of hand-wrought sensitivities. Yet nothing can touch nor copy the well-crafted manipulator of such an art, for like an emerald, the slightest flaw increases both the value and the individuality of the object. The show will continue through October in the East wall display case of McKissick's main gallery. ART FACULTY ART Opening today (although the fnrmal nrtonind hoc K <> o n I VM 1IIUI VpVlllllg M Win rescueduled for Oct. 24) and continuing through Nov. 7 is the annual USC Art Department Faculty Exhibition, also in McKissick. This show highlights the current work of faculty members, but due to the possible clamor of conflicting interest, Aesthetica will refrain from critical comment on this one. CHILD WALL Columbia has been graced with yet another stupendous wall mural, this time in celebration of the International Year of the Child. The mural is located on the corner of Assembly and Dreyfus and spans the 250-foot wall of the Capital City Ball Park. With paintings depicting 25 Columbia children, the wall provides a HBHnH^nmnsBfflHHMHElslyisia 4 Sfoww ?POnS i Ciifikt I imw || Make your ? / Russell If I Coll 7 refreshing visual treat for Southbound traffic on Assembly. The work was co-sponsored by the Artists Guild of Columbia and the Columbia Museums of Art and Science, under the direction of KVitipil Wctiuiup. A graduate of USC, Waldrop has directed more than 60 murals and is currently Special Projects Director with Community Education of Richland District I. The mural was completed last Saturday in a gigantic "paint-athon" by members of the Artists Guild, who in turn chose their own children for depiction. SUNDAYS AT THREE A new program begins this month at the Columbia Museums which will offer special lectures, films, art and science demonstrations, dance and musical events each Sunday afternoon at 3. Last Sunday's program was a slide lecture on Art Nouveau, and this week's offering will be the opening reception for the Seibels Bruce Caroliniana Watercolor Competition. The following Sunday, USC professor Chris Robinson will conduct a gallery talk on National Sculpture '79. Robinson, a sculptor himself, was also Exhibition Director for this year's show, and should be indispensible in providing background on both the works and the artists exhibiting. The last Sunday of the month, Oct. 28, Elizabeth Lever will present a 45-minute slide program on Alaska. Sundays at Three will continue throughout the fall and winter months and should be an informative dimension to the Museum's numerous other services. tto x/1 #5r _L?, wrtook Portrait - m louse . \ THIS COUPON G( PURCHASE OF iSOJ u IV E R SIT Y 0 SB i&l'W THIS NOTt IS ICGAl TENOER r' mwv FOR CMANELOS ONIV jf S ^ W 5 H (1 M^R"^ 2702 Rosewood Or >A n Columbia.
