Last season CBS finished a secure second in overall ratings, behind ABC, and much ahead of Fred Silverman's faltering NBC, which hopes to salvage its pride with the return of the peacock and many of last season's shows. UBS tried several years ago with Richard Roundtree as Shaft, and NBC gave Paul Winfield a try in a short-lived series called Tenefly. Paris has received good reviews from critics who have seen the pilot of the show, especially lauding the acting of Jones and Chamberlin. Traper John, M.D. features former Bonanza star Parnell Roberts in the leading role. Dennehy said McKeon cannot be shot at, kidnapped or in any way roughed up. The 13-year-old is also not allowed in the casinos used in on-location shooting because he is a minor. CBS's comedy line-up remains intact with the returns of Alice, the Jeffersons, the Dukes of Hazzard, One Day at a Time, M*A*S*H and Archie's Place, a further dilution t of All in the Family minus Jean Stapleton.
