All in all. mine is not a DODular opinion to hold. However, it is an opinion I will continue to hold and express, for to remain silent would be equivalent to agreeing with popular opinion. I won't concern myself with the question of where the blame lies for the recent gasoline problems. The windfall profits tax is undisguised thievery, and to urge its passage is to serve as an accomplice to theft. This tax will not serve to stimulate the search for energy. It will only serve to increase the supporting congressman's popularity at home. The oil companies will serve as convenient scapegoats. No degree of popularity can justify this theft of business earnings above the normal tax rate. To further disrupt free market practices, the government will create a new energy bureaucracy. It would be a most pleasant surprise if this proposed multi-billion dollar monstrosity succeeded. But, an examination of such efforts in the past does not encourage this hope. WE FACE a difficult choice. Should we allow our government to follow an immoral, potentially disastrous course, or will we turn to a free energy market economy?
