Conference titles are awarded in cross-country, indoor and outdoor track, swimming, golf, tennis, baseball and basketball. The league champions in the latter two sports earn automatic bids to their respective NCAA tournaments. According to league president Larry Albus, the Metro 7 has come a long way in a little over four years. "We feel we have good overall strength; we sent 42 individuals to the NCAA tournaments last year, besides our team representatives in baseball and basketball," Albus said. As the league president observed this week from his office in St. Louis, the Metro 7 and Carolina have much to offer each other. "USC has a very good overall athletic program, and they would aad a lot to our league. At the same time, we could provide them with the organizational and competitive advantages of belonging to a conference." HOWEVER, the university must first apply for membership, then uc unanimously approve uy uie member schools. Albus claimed the latter would be no problem ? if the former occurs.
