The results of a student survey
indicated that The Crucible, USC's
literary art magazine, is in need of
a change, and "will expand its
format to meet the needs of a
contemporary student body," Jon
Clemmensen, general manager of
Student Media, said.
The survey was conducted by
Student Media personnel, under
the direction of the USC College of
Journalism and Perry Ashley,

Clemmensen said of the 431
students polled, 32 percent had
never read The Crucible, and "a
number of people thought that The
Crucible was an athletic department
publication."
The Crucible was "meeting the
needs of the student body in the
'50s and '60s," Clemmensen said,

The new format was determined
by the Board of Student
Publications and Communications
at its meeting Friday. The board
sets policy and procedure for the
student media.
The new format will include,
"humor, color photography,
reviews of cultural events,
opinions and commentary, a
calendar of campus events and
features by students, staff and
faculty," Clemmensen said. Past
issues have included only poetry,
prose, photography and artwork.

of The Crucible. 8?|j|,

"Ten years from now, a student should be able to g

Hall said the Garnet & Black will go to a fall
