In its first intercollegiate
tournament of the year, the USC
Fencing Club emerged victorious.
The tournament, hosted by
Carolina, was a three way meet
between USC, the Citadel, and
Georgia Southern.
Each team fenced 27 bouts
against each of its opponents,
producing a close final score of
USC 28, Georgia Southern 27, and
the Citadel 26.
Tournament director Charlie
Thompson stated, "It couldn't
have been any closer."
In fencing one point is awarded
to the team for each bout it wins.
A bout, however, is won by the first
person to score five points for
having touched his opponent five
times.
EACH TEAM competed in the
three different categories of fen

Against Georgia Southern the
competition was closer. For USC,
Mark Miklos was unbeated in foil
competition, while Georgia
Southern boasted an undefeated
fencer in two of the three
categories.
While this was the first tournament
this year for Carolina, the
bulk of fencing competition does
not begin until January.
