"This seems like a proper time to resign because the new president and provost are established, and the college is doing well," Lessinger said. USC Provost Francis Borkowski said a national search would be conducted to find ||| a replacement. P LESSINGER SAID he has no H definite plans, but he may return to his "first love," teaching, at the ra university. "I have a commitment H to try to improve public B education," he said, and plans to work with and speak to public 9 education groups. I He also said he has some ideas for books. He would like to write about acting skills involved in teaching and quality control of education, how to increase productivity in the face of declining enrollments and increasing educational costs. Lessinger co-authored a book during his tenure entitled "Teaching as a Performing Art." Lessinger has served as education dean for the past seven years. "When I came here under (USC President Thomas) Jones, I could only conceive of about five years as being a dean," he said. "I have been in the major administrative position as dean for seven years, and that is enough time to serve in that position," he I said. LESSINGER'S RESIGNATION, according to several faculty menrbers in the College of Education, came as a total surprise to the faculty.
