Prescription pad By Brian Turner Owneeeck Staff Writer Prescription pad theft is a problem in doctors' offices, but is not any worse on campus than in private practices, according to Dr. Kendell Fields, director of clinical operations at the Student Health Center. "We've had students caught for theft of prescription pads only two or three times in five years," Fields said. The latest incident was last summer when a person was caught forging the name of a nurse instead of a doctor. AS FAR as I know, those caught stealing from the center have not been penalized significantly," Fields saia. we ioiiow me same precautions private physicians use, keeping the pads in pockets and out of sight. The idea is to make them inaccessible," he said. If someone is determined to steal the pads they may eventually get an opportunity, Fields said. "We would be foolish to believe that we know of every instance of pad thefts." "Fug'' discusses: By R.L. Chesley promote tax in Gamecock StaM Writer down Wages. "THE CHANCE of getting an illegal prescriptior filled at the university pharmacy is next to im possible, so these are taken to pharmacists in town,' he said, adding, "For the instances we know about, il is surprising how fast the pharmacists have becom< suspicious." The vast majority of prescriptions written b> doctors at the health center are filled there also, Fields said, and "it would cause suspicion if someone brought a prescription for a controlled substance to ? private pharmacy."
