Residents want By 8kot Garrick Oiwimdi Staff Wrttw A' petition has been circulated among Woodland Terrace residents requesting university buses to include the apartments as a regular stop. Presently, Woodland Terrace residents who do not own cars ride city buses to campus, said Tom Hindman, terrace resident and circulator of the petition. Hindman said, "The city buses aren't really as trustworthy as mo6t resident students want. The city buses are susceptible to strikes and other such problems. There is also the nroblem of the time element. Because of its multiple stops, it takes about half an hour to get from the apartments to campus." One bos which serves the campus from Woodland Terrace is the Rose Hill bus. Running twice an hour, it picks up students on the corner of Bull and Pendleton streets, goes through Five Points, crosses Devine Street and proceeds into the Rose Hill community. The bus arrives at the far end of S. Beltline, approximately one mile from the apartments. When a student steps off the bus, about one-half hour has ROTC awards presented Twosch estab Four freshmen from USC have USC has annou been awarded Air Force Reserve of two full-tuitio Officer Training Corps (ROTC) the College of College scholarships. $25,000 endowrn Educational Fou Totaling slightly more than The endowm $20 000, the scholarships cover the steel! ' Hindman said most residents would be willing to pay for the trips provided by imiversity buses as long as the transportation was. dependable. City bus fare is 20 cents and Hindman says apartment residents would probably pay half or maybe all of that just to be assured of getting to campus quickly. Hindman presented the petition containing 122 signatures to Stuart Hankins, Visitors' Center irouramaior Han kins said she 'was not surprised at the request,' and she could see the need of a bus line to the apartments. But, she said there are always problems involving the start of new programs; questions such as budget and availability of university buses. The busline question is now in the hands of the university administration. Hankins said, "We're discussing the problem now, and it will be a few weeks before there is any clear answer." olarships O'Boyle to speak lished | Student Government President | inced the creation Seamus O'Boyle will give a State of n SCholai-ShiD6 tO th?* TlnivorcUv aHHroco m - WIM WA W1VJ UVIVU ViXJ UClUiC UIC Nursing from a Student Senate tonight at 7.
