By Gary Brackett Oamtcock Staff Wrttor Columbia residents were given a rare treat Thursday night when The Amazing Kreskin appeared at the Carolina Coliseum. Kreskin, who labels himself a mentalist, told the audience at the beginning of the program he was neither a psychic nnr a hvnnntist Hp nlcn oaiH "T Hnn'f Hn m<i>anlA? " _.W mmj WIMV A. Kreskin amazed the predominately college-age crowd of about 1,300 people when he requested three rings from the audience, and then through the use of his mental powers was able to link the rings. Later, after some joking about not always being able to get the rings apart, he unlinked the rings and returned them. Perhaps the most amazing part of Kreskin's act was when he had to find his paycheck. To do this, Kreskin asked tour volunteers to niae nis paycheck while he was in his dressing room. There was, however, some confusion among the volunteers about where they could hide the check. Through the power of suggestion he was able to make them believe that they were in a desert, or in the Arctic, and he was even able to make them sing "Happy Birthday" to Kreskin ? off key. That really pleased the audience. Kreskin did have skeptics in the audience. To nonbelievers, he offers $20,000 if they can prove the people he uses in the program are secret assistants.
