Qw I vn VM TV-ih 1 -?v? il/l i i/tZf l/t/l i i/15 Girls By Paul Osmunds on Oamtcock Staff Writer Pam Parsons's Girls Basketball Camp, originally scheduled for one week only, was extended to two weeks this summer when more than 300 girls signed up. Parsons, the head women's basketball coach at USC, said she originally expected about 150 girls to attend tne camp. However, during the week of July 23-28, 109 i girls attended, and 205 are at- I tending this week's session. 1 There are many reasons for the large turnout, Parsons said. The 1 increased interest in girls' J basketball and the good year the 1 women s varsuy team nad last season were both determinants in the big interest for the camp, she said. But perhaps the two biggest draws are the status of the university in the state and Coach Parsons herself. She said Carolina is the major institution in the state. The girls want to come here because of its size. As a result, < Parsons said she didn't have to do < a lot of promoting for the camp. ( She said another reason for the large turnout is herself and her j reputation. Almost every school ? has basketball camps, said Par- < sons, a highly successful coach at j Old Dominion College, but the ' dominant status of the university ] and the presence of a successful i coach make Carolina's basketball school more attractive to the girls, t Parsons said she would compare t her camp to any in the country t because of the fundamentals that > are stressed. jj QkaooiH fVin inofnuifAM faank +Via MIIV kJUIVt MIV 11I0U UVIAS* O V^4?V4I UIC Sales j Rentals ? * Lessons MkM Carolina ID 2218 Peuine S i snorts ?X ' basket vi-lo ?U.t U- ?5 _ J ? 5uio v.ini?.cpu) uwi uui ue appiieu SI to life as well as basketball.
