Leis, steel d By JANE SHEALY News Editor A waterfall flowed into a stream where goldfish swam. A small bridge across the water joined two white, sandy beaches. Torches lit palm tree branches. A 21-piece symphonette played from a bandstand. It was a perfect setting tor a luau. It was the third annual Kappa Sigma fraternity luau. with everyone attending dressed in Hawaiian print shirts, and traditional muu-muus. "IT'S A national project," said Phil Sadler, newly-elected Kappa Sigma president. "We spent about $1,100 for everything. We invited a representative from each fraternity." He added that the little sister organization had done about "half the work if not more." Katherine Lindsay, little sister I president, said they were responsible for some decorations, food and drinks. Margaret Holler, a little sister, was in charge of assigning different native dishes to each sister. "1 sent around a list for ideas and everyone (30) brought their own dish." Sand, for the beaches, rocks lining the stream and goldfish were supplied by the brothers. Four bartenders from Wildwood Country Club mixed native Hawaiian drinks. Head bartender , Marvin Tillman, said he had never been to a luau. "I'VE NEVER fixed these kinds of drinks before," he said. "We have six different recipes." He and the other bartenders mixed mai tais, blue hawaiis, pina collatas and fruit daiquiries. Jim Boyce's steel drum symphonette from Charlotte, N.C., played a 21-piece ensemble of oil drums. The ensemble lias made appearances in Las Vegas and with celebrities such as Mike Douglas, Liberace and Sergio Franci.
