By BRIAN TURNER
Gamecock Staff Writer
Two incidents of breaking and entering at Sims (women's
dormitory were reported to Campus Police the week of
April 16 according to Sims' Resident Advisor Karen
Hojnacki.
The first report came on April 18, when a first floor
resident reported waking up around 4 a.m. to find a man
standing by her bed. The resident told him he should leave,
which he did, Hojnacki said.
After the man left her room, the resident said she

discovered him trying to open other doors on the hall. She
then escorted him to the lobby of the dorm and reported him
to the security guard and Campus Police, Hojnacki said.
"Apparently the Security Guard thought the man was the
girl's boyfriend and let him go before the police could
arrive," the RA said.
THE SECOND incident occurred at approximately 4:30
a.m. on April 22, when a guest of a first floor resident said
sne was awakened by a man attempting to enter the room
through a window. Again Campus Police and the security
guard, the same guard who had been on duty during the
other reported break-in, were alerted.

efficient," Hojnacki said. However, the man discovered on
April 18 reportedly told the girl who eascorted him out that
he had entered the building through the front door and
walked down the hall, finding her room unlocked.
George Key, director of public safety and security on
campus, confirmed that the security guard on duty during
both incidents had been released from the staff. "He
wasn't doing his duty, so he was released, uis
nothing but a personnel problem," Key said.
"Security is tighter in Sims now," she continued. The
security guard's post has been moved and they are being
more stringent on checking unescorted people.
