DURING THE TEST each of the
six gates will be raised one at a
time about six inches and im
mediately, closed. The cycle
requires several minutes to
complete. ~
The test will result in a large
volume of water running in the
normally dry spillway area behind
j the dam and could result in ab'
normally high levels downstream.
The gates are provided to spill
water from the lake in case of a
hurricane or extremely heavy
rains. Except for testing, the gates
have not been opened since the
early '60s.
