As chairman of the academic committee that put through the plus grading scale, I know I can push to accomplish my goals " Parry also said she ^ would take on more of the duties "of an advisor" to SAC. "That's what a good chairmanship does." | Parry is an SG senator and an : active member of Smith Building's dorm government. She is in her third year at USC. > " V Lisa Vogelsong, a junior accounting major, says 4'a new outlook will be helpful" if she is elected treasurer of SG. "My lack of involvement in SG this semester will be an asset. I don't have any political ties in the Senate. My interests don't lie with any one particular group." Vogelsong says her business background is her main qualification. "This school is a business and efficiency in business is important." The IFC endorsed candidate : j i-i - - sciiu sue wouia iiKe 10 see "a tair distribution of SAC funds" and regards her position as chairperson of SAC as an important part of the SG treasurer's job. Vogelsong would also like to see that positive steps are taken to insure good participation in SAC. "I think that attendance by all members of SAC is important. The rules of attendance should be more strictly enforced. They (the members) have a lot of responsibility." j Vogelsong is a member of Kappa Delta sorority. She is in her third year at USC. / X Candidates for SG Secretary : Stephanie Thomas Donna Walker Garry Norris Garry Norris sees a lack of experience and parliamentary procedure as problems he will | face if elected to the office of vice president. "Parliamentary procedure is the foundation of the senate. The office of vice president has precedence over the senate. He i is the most influential voice there." Norris said a more structured meeting would cut out wasted time. Norris, an accounting major, said the lack of communication between students and SG is I unfortunate. "Student government is supposed to be a means fr?r U111 Hnn f r 11?' VI uiuu^llio IV tAprush uieir ideas and complaints. Student government is supposed to lobby for the students to get | things done." One proposal Norris would like to see effected is a comj mittee set up for the purpose of j listening to students' complaints, studying alternates and turning these suggestions into "positive legislation." ; "Another thing that concerns v:-:-\: . ^Phil I Phil Sadler, an art major, says his noninvolvement with I student government this year "will be an asset" if he is elected SG vice president. | Sadler, a junior at USC, would like to "get on a more informal basis with the student senate" as president. "Parliamentary procedure takes up too much time ? nothing gets done. They (the senators) never hear both | sides of an issue because some aren't sure of exactly what's rlAinrt ?U111? Ull. Sadler says, "The biggest problem at USC is apathy." I ^ ? ::SS PWPlgPr ' n Sadler he suggests "campuswide ? _ i social events every two weeks instigated by student government." j Another major concern cited by Sadler is the recent proposal to give a vote to the student representative on the board of trustees. "A voting member on the board of trustees is crucial." Sadler said there is a "real need" for student input on the board. "I'm willing to spend the time to try and get something done about these issues." Sadler is a member of Kappa Sigma j fraternity. He is in his third year at USC. v \ Norris, a junior at USC, is a nember of the Pan-H?Uo?;? - ? AVllVlllV, Council for black greeks and >lans to attend law school at JSC in 1979. He is a member of he young democrats and the SG enate. This is his third year at JSC.
