From one of the corners of the Coliseum ceiling a small model spacecraft slowly floated down to the giant denim hat over the stage. From the giant hat came a larger version of the model bellowing out sparks and smoke from its jet nozzles. Finally the 'Mothership' touched down onto the stage. THE BAND MEMBERS pulled a ramp up to the door of the craft so its passenger, Dr. Funkenstein, could come down to the stage. The group went into another chorus of "Flashlight," in order to get 'Sir Nose D'Voidoffunk', to dance. Upon completion of his mission Dr. Funkenstein returned to the mothership and took off. After the ship left, the members of Parliament-Funkadelic left the stage, leaving the crowd wanting more. After a few minutes of foot stomping and shouting one member of the group, the bass singer, calmly walked up the microphone and chanted in his deep voice, "Tear the Roof Off the Mntlior Qnolrap " ii'ViinV* !r iuwiIVIL uuvnvi ^ w 1UV1I IO I.I1C opening to one of Parliament's old hots "Give Up the Funk." PARLIAMENT-FUNKADELIC is a group that does not depend oh meaningful lyrics or smooth sophisticated melodies. They rely instead on music that has a dancing beat and light lyrics. There is little social commentary to be found to the songs and the show the group puts on. Instead the viewer is taken away to a comic book world with heroes, villains and colorful costumes. In the age of elaborate, stage shows such as Kiss, Queen and others, the Parliament-Funkadelic show was more than an eyeful. With Parliament-Funkadelic were two other groups, Cameo, and the Bar-Kays. Cameo led off the evening to a half-filled house, but that HiH riA# Hamnon Hm> rt?v?nf\'e MSM* i?VV UIV O | spirit or performance. The nine man band played an impressive set performing their rhythm and blues hits "Post Mortem," and "Funk, Funk," songs off the band's album "Cardiac Arrest.'* THE BAR-KAYS FOLLOWED Cameo onto the stage with harddriving funk that at times sounded IX. The crowd responded well to the band's fast-paced tunes like "Let's Have Some Fun," and "Get Funky." The high point of the Bar-Kays stint was a long and very unbelievable drum solo which left the concert audience impressed.
