SG Supreme By JAN EASTERL1NG and KATHLEEN MCINTYKE Gamccoek Staff Writers The Student Government Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that SG President Dave Wilsford could not use more than $200 of his contingency fund without Senate approval. C. to attend the National Students Association '(NSA) Conference. "ANYTHING UP to a $200 limit may be used at the president's discretion with the signature of the treasurer," said Russell Putnam, supreme court justice. The trip was estimated to cost around $700 for both people. According to Steve Brown, at torney general in defense of Wilsford, the president could take the trip to Washington on contingency funds, dividing the expenses item by item, such as travel, registration, and lodging, none of which would exceed the $200 limit. Brown argued that the "Student Government Codification" is vague. The word 'item1 was eliminated in good faith. There is no need to call back the authors to find out exactly what they meant. The $200 limit has never come into debate before." Sandy Stern, prosecutor, argued that "The codification says that the budget refers to a project by project basis. WILSFORD AND PeiYy were planning to attend the N&A conference in the Capitol along with the student government president and secretary of the College of Charleston. "I felt that I was doing the right thing by wanting to use the contingency funds for the trip because I had the legal opinion of the attorney general in writing that it was legal," Wilsford said.
