Two proposed amendments to the faculty manual have
been presented to the Faculty Senate, according to D.
Bruce Marshall, chairman of the Faculty Advisory Committee.
If adopted, the first amendment would permit USC
colleges, schools and departments to "elect from its faculty
D a committee on Scholastic Standing to oversee the
academic progress of students within its degree
programs." Also, the committee has the authority to create
specific regulations concerning entrance requirements,
determining the "good standing" in individual programs,
controlling attendance and limiting enrollment.
Further stipulations of the amendment require the
committee to be "subject to review by the University

THE OTHER proposed addition to the manual would
require that recommendations affecting faculty legislative

to the Board of Trustees by the president of the university
These recommendations would be forwarded only aftei

Marshall said Tuesday the first amendment "will giv<
the divisions of USC the kind of control they need for thei:
programs." He said the amendment would aid in th<
standardization of different programs within the univer
sity.
ENTRANCE and qualifying tests will probably be usee
by a number of USC divisions, he added. The Colleges o
Engineering, Nursing, Pharmacy, and others are amoni
USC programs that already utilize various ways o
