VOL. LXV1II, NO. 15 , 1A ? THURSDAY. OCTOBER 28,1976 1 ntvfrnity of South Carolina, Columbia. S.v'. Faculty ? By JOHNNY LOTT Gamecock Staff Writer The USC faculty recommended that the Board of Trustees not crant autonnmv to thp College of Business Administration (BA) as requested by BA's reorganization committee. Of the 401 participating faculty members, 307 voted for a resolution made by the Faculty Advisory Committee asking the Board not to act on the BA School's proposal, with 94 voting against it and one abstaining. "I prefer not to make any statement until the faculty has met again," W.F. Putnam, associate dean of the College of Business Administration, said. The proposal was designed to give the BA School autonomy over such matters as A i ? w admissions standards, tenure and promotion. According to a document written by the college's reorganization committee, the proposal would have given the college liberties it can not exercise under the current university system. It was based on two premises: (1) The colleges and schools of USC already have sufficient procedural powers to sustain and improve their academic standards and the advisory committee sees no direct relationship between separate authority and improved standards.
