"I really started doing this more on a dare," Postero said at his Athens, Ga. home Saturday ."Two friends of mine were sports broadcasters when we were at a GeorgiaKentucky game. We went out to pick horses at Keenland race track. And I told them since I was the oldest to let me pick the horses. "None of the horses made the finish line," Postero said. "In fact a few of them didn't even show up at the gate." ON THE WAY back from the race track Postero said his friends, Ed Thelineus and Jim Koger, were arguing over who had picked the winning teams that weekend. "I told them they were giveng me a headache talking about that stuff," Postero said. "I said neither one of you know anything about football. "So, Ed said if I was so smart I ought to get my own show and give them some competition," Postero said. "And Jim Thplinpiic caiH if ??/>? ?i/?lr 11 ? uwtu IK jrvru piv-rv lUUlUdli like you pick race horses you ought to pick losers. Yeah, we can call it Leonard's Losers. And that's sort of how the seed got planted right there in that taxi cab." Since 1968 Postero's college football show has been 84 per cent accurate and his pro show was 86 per cent accurate in 1975. "As far as I know I am the world's greatest football prognosticator," he said. "I don't know of anybody who has a better average than I've got." Postero is not concerned with accuracy. "The secret to Leonard's Losers is that I'm I S5E I AS I jj on Monday visit yourl I and get some spirited guper ?t Join us Tuesday on Gr the building of the Wo j Sandwich and Coke, i Street Dance with mu; iGastronomical Epicur IftAeet us on the RH Pati< land FANTASTIC eating |on Wednesday losers, b ^ I I really not concerned if I am accurate or not," he said. The fact that I may be accurate is just a plus." POSTERO CALLS himself Leonard Post Toastees over his ten minute radio shows each week. He describes his narratives as satirical. For example this is what he said about the Carolina-Georgia game before it was played this past Saturday: Jim Carlens Roosters are crowing a victory tune, now that Tech and Duke have gone down the drain, and the Gamecocks will have their spurs sharp when they arrive at the Sanford Dog House on Saturday afternoon. The Red Clay Hounds are prime targets for the birds and making chicken feed out of the Bulldogs would really be a feather in the Fowl HOMECOMING 1976 UNIVEF fite favorite place spirit. oon Qtrnnl 'WWII W I V? "You can get basic facts by reading magazines during the summer, which means you know absolutely nothing by the time kick-off starts," he said. "On Saturday night I get last week's program and get all the final scores and see how they came out," Postero said. "Then I go in my dining room about 9 o'clock and start to write. And I write with a pencil and piece of paper just like all other country people do. I don't use no damn typewriter. '.SITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA fiisBe OK Frisbee Freaks to show your stuff. "Hell, Jimmy the Greek ain't even got out of bed by the time I finished my selections." On Sunday afternoon Postero writes his pro game show. He is back in Atlanta on Monday morning to tape this show for broadcast later in the week. His college show is heard on more than 750 stations and his pro show has 450 different markets. Both shows are carried over American Forces Radio throughout the world. Columbia's WCOS carries the show at 4:45 on Friday's and 11:45 on Saturday. This year Postero has begun to publish his selections in a weekly pamphlet. If it sells he hopes to make it a national publication next season. The publication is now being sold on a trial basis in Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee. POSTERO WAS BORN in Athens 54 years ago. He graduated from Georgia with a degree in Chemistry and had wanted to go into medicine. "But 1 got to thinking and decided I didn't want to look at people's toe nails the rest of my life." His shows are now his full time occupation. He has contracted and owns 52 per cent of the stock in a private development corporation.
