H to 12 Pairings made for Classic Carolina will meet Harvard and Alabama will play Georgetown in the opening round of the third annual Carolina Basketball Classic Dec. 22 in the Carolina Coliseum. Carolina head coach and associate athletic director Frank McGuire announced the pairings. The Carolina-Harvard game will begin at 7 p.m. and will be followed by Alabama-Georgetown at 9 p.m. First night winners meet for the title at 9 p.m., Dec. 23 following a consolation game between opening night losers. CAROLINA WON the first two Carolina Classics, defeating Louisiana State in the 1974 finals and Oklahoma State last year. The appearance of Harvard marks: third consectuvie year the Ivy League has been represented in the Classic field. Princeton participated in the first classic and Yale was the Ivy entry last year. Alabama and Georgetown are coming off outstanding seasons which climaxed with appearances in the NCAA playoffs. Alabama won the Southeastern Conference championship in compiling a 23-5 record and Georgetown finished 217. Carolina had an 18-9 record last year and Harvard was 8-18. The Gamecocks are scheduled to meet Alabama in a regular season game, Dec. 1, at Tuscaloosa, Ala. McGL'IHE ALSO announced two revisions in the 1976-77 Gamecock schedule, including a switch in dates for the Michigan game so it can be nationally televised. The Michigan game, listed for Dec. 8 on the original schedule, will be played Jan. 2 in Carolina Coliseum on the inaugural date of NBC-TV's series of 11 consecutive Sundays of national collegiate basketball telecasts.
