Every other night o draft beer costs about 30 cents a fi draft and 60 cents for bottled beer, c Don's is like one big beer bust h every night with huge crowds of p singles milling around the dance b floor and drinking what we term r rot-gut draft beer. Rot gut is bitter \* and crummy, yet it will still get you drunk. s< The dance floor is one of the most d popular attractions of Don's. In n this cage, mockeries of some of the a more famous contemporary c dances occur. Because of cramped b conditions, Don's is the only place ti a person can dance the Shag u standing still. The music has p nrnerpssprf snmpu/hat nn ~ , o V W.I mv- I, jukebox though, allowing most of s< the old beach and Top 40 songs to die after a 15-year lingering period. Don's is not a location to think, to S solve the problems of the world, debate diplomacy with Henry Kissinger or write a sequel to Jonathan Livingston Seagull. It is a rowdy, raise hell bar which is overcrowded to the point of nausea. Yet this appears to be its attraction as hundreds of singles cram themselves into its confines I every night to drink rot gut beer, dance, make passes at women, get picked up and get just plain drunk. ! Olivers, a singles bar in every ense, has a distinct personality, otted with couches, plants and a loose head. The seating facilities re minimal, as members seem ontent to aimlessly circle the oval ar in the center ring to the tune of ape music. Happy hour, from 4 ntil 7 p.m. finds mixed drink rices at $1. "Oliver's," sh said, "caters to those with good taste. It definitely has a high class atmosphere. I'd never go to one ol those Rosewood bars, becausc they'd let anyone in." Certainly, then, Oliver's borders on being obvious to the point ol pretention. Somehow, they let us in~we actually passed the test. Bui even with its pitfalls, its cosmetic air of affluence, for some rpasnr we can't pinpoint (perhaps our fascination with the moose), we liked it.
