W V Letters to Long, Williams deserve publicity TO THE EDITOR: I've been a student at Carolina long enough to have read about 100 of the Gamecock publications. This includes the front page, editorial page, as well as the sports section. My first year here your sports editor was an avid Jeff Grantz fan as well as a Jay Lynn Hodgin fan. My second year at Carolina was a slight bit different, with Grantz hurt most of the season he became a Ron Bass and Jay Lynn Hodgin fan. Now that I am in my third year at Carolina your sports editor is once again a Jeff Grantz fanatic. Granted that Jeff is a good^ quarterback as well as an all around good athlete, but take a good look at the statistics. Looking closely at game statistics you may stumble across the names of Kevin Long and Clarence Williams. What do they have to do to get more then a 4 or 5 line paragraph in this paper? Statistics will show that both Kevin Long and Clarence Williams are carrying that oval shaped object, better known as a football, at a record setting pace. At the conclusion of the Appalachian State game Kevin is only 60 yards or less shv of hernmincr 'FIRST' back in Carolina history to have gained '1,000 YARDS' in a single season. On the other hand Clarence is about 200 yards short of gaining '1,000 YARDS'. With two games left in the season it is a known fact that, unless some freak accident occurs, Kevin will get his 1,000 yards. The possibility of Clarence getting 1,000 yards is very conceivable.
